Life down under ( In Australia)
Im planning to write a sort of blog on life in the state of Victoria Australia
Normally I would tell stories.
When in Vanuatu on holiday, my 10 year old told a Canadian lady,
In Australia we ride of the back of a kangaroo to get to school. If we have a baby our mother puts it in the kangaroos pouch. She said oh Really.
(thought it was true)
Never got my older daughter to make the photo-shopped images. 
Plenty of what I write will be controversial, but I will try to be fair and build bridges, not make divisions.
IE climate change vs climate deniers.
I would say we all want a good environment but need to balance also sorts of issues.
People do cause polution, we need to reduce consumption on things where possible
and be aware that green is not always green, and that there can be political motives.
Whats this all got to do with trading. On the surface not a lot. Deep down a great deal.
There is also two paths. State what I perceive with out references. This is fast but dangerous as it perpetuates false narratives (accidental or
deliberate), or give references but this will slow me writing the content down a lot.
Its not ideal to start with protests, but I could write background to these stories, or just write the current stuff that's happening around me right
now.
Well im likely to start with recent protests that happened in the city, 30 KM from me.
Im that last person likely to be expected to covering protests, but a great deal cant be learnt from this, and ive got a lot of uncensored content.
I think its the first time in Australian history where the police fired rubber bullets in the crowd & teargas. (Need reference for this & I dont have
it.)
Also want to explain the background. We have some of the most extreme and long lock-downs in the world. >200 days. Regardless of where you are in the
world, all of this affects our finances, mental and physical health and the markets we trade.

Where I am living there is currently a combo LockDown + curfew. Living in a city of +20m inhabitants and don't hear a pin drop in the night is
astonishing. Seeing six lanes street (in the night) with just occasional trucks and military jeep with deadly silence around. Seriously I am Italian
and I did not have experienced the lockdown in Europe But I am quite sure was not right this. This tell me also something about discipline about Thai
people. There is the law we respect the law. (and face a 2 years jail if the law is broken may be an incentive to follow the rules)
Last Year in January I got a beautiful baby. So my lockdown started with it. Then this year started the pandemics . Say an year later than Europe and
USA.
Can't go to the sea, can't do party with friends, facing a quarantine of 14+14 days if move to another country. Meaning I had to find a solution for
my mental and physical state.
Physical: I do exercise at home. I have some equipment that make the mission possible.
Mental: I swear a lot in Italian . nobody really understand beside wife but I don't care. Other things that help a lot was learning how to cook and I
would say my level right now is quite high. Wife is a disaster in kitchen so You may see this as a struggle for survival.
Another comment: Seeing the city with a lot of empty shop all around and I am asking myself often how people actually survive. There is no free check
for government here at the end of the month. Beside this I am wondering if We are landing in a new era where actually We will live a more solitaire -
virtual - life. NFT and online purchasing is in my opinion great examples of this new direction. For traders really doesn't change anything at all.

why this thread has just got to be about just what I see.
I read your comment to our family over dinner, and we had a good laugh. Right now we need some laughs. Note of course much of what you write is not

As I alluded to earlier, im the last guy anyone (including me) would expect to cover protests, but there are some good reasons why which I will
explain later. I will expand to a much bigger scene.

Context in AU (Unlike USA) is we are not a gun culture. Most power gun im allowed without being on shooting range with license is a fly gun (And i
failed to kill a fly at point blank range this week)
So a slug gun (to shoot tin cans), sling shot etc is all illegal. Bullet proof vest illegal.
99% of the people in this video are illegal protestors who are risking $au5000 (USD$4000) fine. Only legal people are police, press and anyone who
lives within 5km (very few people living that close)
The signs they carry are a good reflection of the issues.

Where I live (Florida, USA) there was a two week lockdown that was mandatory in March of 2020. Then they eased it to all except restaurants and bars,
and eventually it was non existent. As you can imagine, Covid is spreading voraciously here. Vaccines are available at any time to anyone who wants
one. However many hospitals are now full with unvaccinated covid patients. This was always the risk...that covid would overrun emergency medical care
to those who need it, and in some places it is happening.
Today we have much more information about the lethality and side effects of both the vaccines and Covid than early on in the pandemic. When we saw the
initial fatality numbers out of europe, my expectations were that I lose over 30 friends/associates from Covid. In reality the number so far is 1. It
seems that (where I live at least) removing restrictions and allowing people to work and run their businesses was the right thing to do. That said, it
was done with a roll of the dice, and the results are "lucky" and not due to wise decision making.
That said, I lean towards "liberty" with regard to personal rights and responsibility. So, with the current state of the pandemic (there is no
controlling it any more), our goal now should shift from preventing the spread to reaching herd immunity as quickly as possible (but without
overwhelming the health care system--which is now a possibility here). I respect peoples right to not get vaccinated or not wear a mask in public, but
I also respect business owners' rights to set their own conditions for entry and to refuse the right to do business with people who choose not to.
This includes hospitals and their right to refuse to accept unvaccinated Covid patients in their emergency rooms or to ration care to people who could
have prevented their hospitalization.
I see the numbers in Aus, and my bet is that Covid will not (and can not) be eliminated no matter what the government does, and they need to
acknowledge the harm they are causing and come up with a Plan B. My experience here is that commerce needs to be allowed and people need to be free to
live their lives, especially since most of the risks of covid and the vaccine are known to all who choose to see it.
Good luck over there. I had the pleasure of spending a month in Australia two months prior to Covid and I look forward to going back once the dust
settles.

Hello again from AU. I think we are now in the longest lockdown in the world in our state, and officially its just being said that pursing covid zero
is not going to work.
More can and will be said on that later.
I want to say what I think is one of the most important talks I have ever heard.
This might have been 15 + years ago, so the precise details will not be exact - but the beautify of this is that doesn't matter.
A guy from an organization called saved the children set about to measure hunger levels around the world in children.
He said it was really depressing.
Then he found two families, both just as poor with the same resources. One families children were badly malnourished, and the others were ok.
After investigation, the family that thrived did 3 small meals, and got some protein added into the meals, and the malnourished family did one bigger
meal per day without the protein.
Now the beauty of this is, a family that cant even read or write can follow the concept, in any country / culture in the world.
It is a down up rather than top down approach. Top down approaches may work well, but can be marred by corruption, agenda's not in peoples interest,
well meaning & educated people who are ignorant.
Top down can dis-empower & control, but grass roots low control empowers people. Its also convincing when your own research leads to clear conclusions
that work for you.
Disclaimer, Love it or hate it, im a low control, empowering person & advocate for free speech.
A famous saying (many minor variations is ) GIVE A MAN a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for his life time.
But lets extrapolate. This concept on world hunger applies to trading, your countries success in dealing with covid, parenting, marriage etc.
My child hood was probably much better than average, with a lot of strengths and weakness.
As children we were however told what to think, not how to think. Children being told what to think is problematic because the world is (any likely
will always be) a totally different place from when your a child, to an adult.
I am however in no way saying dont give children guidance. Im saying guide them how to think through issues and prepare them to live without you.

Ive been asked if I was affect by earth quake today. Its think it was my states biggest. Earthquakes are rare here.
I remember a New Zealander asking me, is it safe to live in Australia with the poisonous snakes and spiders. (Almost none in NZ)
Well NZ has earthquakes. I spoke to someone from Christchurch who said it was like a movie. The river changed course in front of her.
Then a big mess to clean up. No ability to even buy food for 2 to 3 weeks later until power and internet restored (unless you had cash) Insurance and
building issues for years to come.
So back to Melbourne Victoria, the picture here is likely earth quake damage at its worse. (Very mild)
I was on a skype call at the time, and just stood under the door frame for a few minutes yelling out to the family to do the same. Was not strong
where I lived but lasted at least 60 seconds. Other parts of Victoria (my state) lost power or internet.
I was watching a very significant court case over what some people say is our first political prisoner. (Never done this before) The prosecutor lost
internet a fair bit but came good. I missed the end part of the court case due to a long phone call, but the judge was excellent in my not legal savvy
opinion.
There are other really significant and historically unheard off events going on too, and more on that later.

We are still in the worlds longest lock down and its very clear to all the lock downs are not the solution to covid issues - and the have spectacular
mental health and economic impact.
I suspect its a historic first, but we now have protests outside of Australian embassy (New York) for whats going on in Australia.

Its really tough in Melbourne Victoria.
At our local school, we have (at least) 30 staff at the local school who have a choice of be co-coerced to get a vaccine they dont want, or no job. If
you want a vaccine, thats fine .. but others can be pro vaccine but anti co-coercion, or pro vaccine for adults, but not children. Nearly 100 parents
are in the parents group, and there is also a group for the children. (all on telegram)
Sentiment is even stronger on vaccination of children. in AU we have had ONE child under 19 die to covid. (Over the entire country of Australia) We
have > 500 deaths from vaccination. (exact ages unknown to me)
So if your pregnant or want to be in the future, you need to get vaccinated. Massive pressure on young children to be vaccinated. MY 13 year old
daughter was in tears being pressured by her psychologist to get vaccinated. Well meaning teachers are publicly asking children if they are vacinated.

Yet, again, the official Pfizer vaccine label states that:
“Available data on COMIRNATY administered to pregnant women are insufficient to inform
vaccine-associated risks in pregnancy.”
And
“It is not known whether COMIRNATY is excreted in human milk.”

I spoke this week to a very well educated German guy in his 30's, very nominal Catholic, worked with high risk juvenile youth in corrective services.
Seemed well versed in history, philosophy and medicine.
Built like a tonne of bricks.
He says you might as well give the UN-vaccinated a yellow star to wear. (What was given to the Jews in Germany before they were exterminated)
..... if he has to vaccinate his children, we will sell up and live in a caravan in the outback. (He is coerced to be vaccinated himself else no job.)
My (Peters) grandfather was Jewish & extended family fought and died in the resistance, hid Jews etc.
On the other side of the fence, very close to me are well meaning person who is funding a million dollar lottery for the vaccinated
and other person saying to his 40,000 employees, no job if no jab.
I must restate that all these people are very caring individuals, despite very different opinions.
In my opinion this is medical coercion.
more as time permits. I wish it was better news. One thing thats good is my wife & I have very similar perspectives. Plenty of cases where extremes in
one family make things hard.
Ultimately we will let our children choose, (Which has massive implications)
my 16 year old put about 30 hours work into researching the issue. She didnt go to the media, but just government statistics and scientific papers.
Whats good about this effort (when she should have been studying that week for he exams) is that what she learnt in 30 hours, was likely more than a
year of school. This is the child who gets upset over dinner table, if we ever talk about politics. She wants to talk about her music and acting etc.

Last week there was a teachers union protest 2 km from my home opposite the local police station outside a shopping center.
Protest was small in that many of them all over Melbourne were organized. Not one large protest.
50 to 100 or so teachers. These small 1 hour protests are good in that low chance of arrest, and low chance of pepper spray, rubber bullets, 40mm
bullets, tear gas & assault by the police.
They are also legal is its a work related union meeting. New unions are popping up and getting 20,000 members in just 2 weeks.
This was the only teacher arrested, not sure why. Could be no mask without an exemption, or shes not in the union or shes out side of 15km from
home/work. (Not hard to get arrested even if your legal at any protest)
(We have had 5km radius from home for a long time, and its just been expanded to 15km. Still have helicopter fly over every night to make sure we are
not out. Covid spreads much more after 9pm till 5am, so this is all for our safety

When she got arrested a lot of cheers from the crowd and even more friendly car horn beeps from the passers by. Response of passes by to the event was
very positive.
There are much more colorful scenes going on that this though. Things I could not ever have imagined in Australia. Its hard to believe that I am
(among other things) reporting about protests in Melbourne as Im the last person I would expect to do such a thing

Its crazy to read all these stories indeed. I believe everyone can have an opinion and that has to be respected let it be anything.
Im vaccinated with Astrazenia since May, I had no preconditions, I had zero side effects from the vaccinations. I would like to share 3 things here:
1. I live in Hungary, which is right now probably the most mixedly (is there is such word anyway?!) vaccineted nation in the world. From 9,77 mio
people we are at 60% vaccination rate. 1 mio got astrazenica, 1 mio sputnyik, 1,5 mio sinopharm, 2 mio pfizer, 0,5 moderna. Adding to this who already
had covid and the ones who are immune I believe we are around 80% easily.
Around us case numbers are pretty bad, especially in counties with low vaccination rate. We have a some 100 new cases everyday, seems pretty stable.
Since June we have ZERO rules. People can meet and mix, all open, no masks nowhere, life is back not normal. If I managed to contribute to restoring
normal life by getting my jabs, Im happy as for me thats the most important. Goverment already expressed they will not pose any rules against covid,
whoever is afraid get vaccinated, but life has to go on. Last week Norway abolished all rules as well, hopefully slowly more countires will follow and
we can get back to normal everywhere.
2. Last week I was flying to Zürich and first I had to buy a mask at the airport, because I did not even have one since June. In the plane they made
the announcement to "put the masks on to protect the unvaccinated". For me that was scandelous. Sorry but I dont want to protect the unvaccinated,
everyone should prectect themselves. If someone afraid should get the vaccination otherwise just live as normal.
3. A month ago we had a little party with friends at a lake near by. Some friends are vaccinated some are not and that is completely fine. Everyone
should know the best for themselves. Of course at some point covid was part of discussion and one of my friend said he is afraid because of the rumors
thats its some kind of poison or whatever and what would that do to his body. At that night I calculated that guy drank 0,75 liter of pure alcohol (6
liters of beer, 1,5 bottle of jegermeister). And is he afraid of what the vaccination will do to his body??

We are just out of the longest lockdown in the world. While that sounds good (and it is) ive been enjoying catching up up with people.
Whats not good is we have legislation that is extremely likely to go through, that sets up a dictatorship in our state of Victoria. The good thing is
that this legislation is waking some more people up.
Permanent state of emergency powers that no one but out premier can revoke. Hes accountable to a committee of people that he chooses, but he doesnt
have to obey the committee.

The legislation has features like $60,000 fine for breaching public health order (which would also include protesting against the abuse of power when
this bill is activated) $20,000 fine for not wearing a mask or up to 2 years prison.
Monica who did this video, just came out of 17 days solitary confinement in jail (>15 days is considered torture) As soon as she got out of jail, her
boyfriend proposed to marry her!

in AU, $130 a month, + AU $750 for the unit.
Few comments. Download speed is awesome
I thought im dropping i bit under 1% of the ping packets, but turns out this is from AU to USA, not to google.com.au.
Ping times to google.com.au much better than what speedtest.net shows
55 watts power, which is better than the USA users who were getting 100 watts.
Speed faster than my Australian cable internet.
I'm tempted to make a farady shield, as I figure thats a lot of potential radiation,
(dont want shield on side of house as that will stop mobile signal, so roof only)
has 30 meter cable
Expected the unit to follow the satellites in the sky, but it doesnt move. (it can move itself to get best signal). Not moving is a good thing, as my
house is in a dip, and also due to tall trees, dont have line of site low on the horizon.
What I also dont know is how far from home this will work. Likely its only a few KM but I hope in time they will unlock it to other locations.

Wow that is cool! I am also pleasantly surprise of the low ping You are getting reaching your server in the US, as notably Satellite devices always
suffer of insane bad ping.(lag) What You are getting ~200ms is currently What I have from Thailand to US through fiber (and so many tweaks) .
Please keep an eye on StarLink ping when You will have bad weather in your area. IF the signal would be still good then I will start to think as well
as this solution!
I see You like tech devices as You have the cooling tower, photovoltaic panels... I still have on my roof in my house in Europe a big antenna there..
That is the CB radio antenna. Sadly I can't use anymore now.
I don't know exactly which type of router You got with StarLink. But yeah I am aware that You can't move the device around according to Starlink
documentation.
For my fiber, I just bought a Mikrotik 4001 router, insanely complex, but It a really cool router where You can make so many things. Been able to get
an improvement of other 10ms and a more stable connection.

I even have a big solar tracker. Working for years but never got completely finished. Didnt know of CB still existed. I was close to getting ham
license when I was a child, but found the morse code a bid hard.

Hi Blackbox, yes my electronics back ground lead lead to IT - which lead to being a hard ware engineer in IBM.
I wish I had done software instead, but my bad back would not have coped. Its only been the last 2 years or so that my back is manageable due to
finding the two people with the skill to fix it. (lots of time and money spend with good results)
Ive now had the starlink dish for a few weeks.
In summary, nice and fast downloads, but not like direct fibre connections like Texas users have.
fairly reliable but I note that Remote desktop connections from AU to USA do drop out a few times a day. My ping to the interstate connection is very
solid, but ping from AU to USA is not. (Not what I expect)
But here is the weakness.
We had a storm, hail, rain high wind. Even after the storm had stopped, and the sky looked clear, the link was down.
Here is a picture of the clear sky still with no starlink working. With the wisdom of hind site, i wish I had done a screen shot of the weather rain
map patterns.
A few surprises. The dish never moves. I expected it to follow the satellites in the sky. I dont understand if I launched a satellite in the sky
directly above me, how it would move relative to my location on the ground?
Comments welcome.
What I also dont know is how far from home will it work. I hoped if I pointed it to the same location in the sky, it might work an hour or 2 drive
from home. Will test when I holiday next.
Next surprise is radiation from the dish. USA users were getting 100+ watts power consumption, I got 55 watts. Thats massive compared to a mobile
phone of max say 1 watt, and wifi way below this.
At a recent protest I spoke to a friend who was radio frequency engineer whose full time profession is now bee keeping. He says behind the dish the
signal will drop by 20 DB, and hes not concerned about it.
He did say hes concerned about 5G but he didnt sound concrete in his conclusion. This is a topic I have no informed opinions on, but the engineer said
his 3 beehives near 5g towers have not done well. In all fairness there can be many reasons for this
and this is my no means conclusive. He also is not worried about being near a 5g phone, hes worried about being near many 5g phones all at once.

Its also been a big bitter sweet week in our state.
We had a pandemic emergency bill go to parliament that is basically tyranny. 100's of thousands of people are protesting, parliament sat till 6AM in
the morning debating the bill.
It appeared the bill had zero chance of being blocked. Then after a 2 year absence, one of our X Labor power brokers thrown under a bus by our Labor

(He got caught for corruption, branch stacking, - their internal checks to make sure dead people dont vote even failed was kicked out of the labor
party)
Then a independent voted for the bill with a few of the worst details removed from the bill. IE 2 years jail for breaching health offices mandates.
The bill is filled with no checks and balances on power.
In all fairness, both major parties and some of the small parties are very corrupt and terrified of investigations into corruption.
What I expect at next election is big growth in the minor parties at the expense of the larger parties.

My daughter came to 2 protests, and I learn a few things from her. Shes big into flags and says countries are not evenly represented. Its the European
, Polish etc that are over re-represented. The atmosphere is like a carnival
People have also been outside parliament 24/7 with music, food haircuts & sleeping.
Unlike earlier protests, Police and protestors have been well behaved. Police even played cricket with the protestors on the steps of parliament.

What a year! as far as world events go.
Nothing like I could have imagined.
Trading systems overall went well, and lots more things in the pipeline. Systems I sold also went well overall. For me its been a reasonable year
trading, though it doesnt matter so much as end of financial year is 30 June in Australia
Ive been working on a NQ day trading system and are looking into the fact that there is a strong bias to short. This is taking me ages due to
distractions and that fact that the code is slow to optimize in TS.
Speed varies with specific indicators, and also how many bars back. This system might end up for sale next year. $11000 profit this month!
Lots more in the pipeline, and some of this is just new things we learn from GSB users.
I was hoping to get the replacement to TS execution done by now, but its not quite finished.
My family are fairly well. My 18 year old got covid 3 weeks back, and she was off work for 1.5 days. (very mild symptoms) But we had to quarantine,
and it was harsher than the previous 6 lock-downs in Melbourne. Couldn't leave home. The rest of us didnt get covid, which was not a surprise. We
could not have been more prepared with medications and knowledge - though we have little fear of covid. If we had co-morbidity's then that would be a
different issue. We are a very health conscious family.
My 16 year old got into top class with a performing arts act she did, Very talented and she pulled in good marks for subjects she is one year in
advance in. An amazing year of growth character wise for her.
Lock-downs for my 14 year old mental health however have not been good.
IM taking a week off on the 1st of Jan, but will do minimal tech support. Hanging out for a holiday, as I dont think I have had one for 2 years. Im
off to a deluxe farm out in the country with the family.
one highlight has been attending protests with 100 of thousands of people, and great that my children accompanied my wife & I.
I also feel like I have grown as a person. The challenges of the year have been harder for my wife & I, more than any other year. In a good way its
caused us to find strength in God. It also been good that
my wife (Kerryn) and I are also very much on the same page. Often in families that is not the case which makes things harder.
Had some funny events too.
Came out of my office with 1/2 of a large cookie (biscuit)
My family know I love my cookie with a cuppa tea 3 times a day.
Got a comment, dads got his cookie again. I said, no its 1/2 a cookie and its all I have left. Much laughing among the children. They twisted my
comments...
to All i have left in life is a cookie, and 1/2 a cookie at that.
It reminds on of when we flew on a short plane trip.
I was telling someone, I was on the loo in the plane, and the plane was shaking violently. Never had experienced anything like it. That got twisted
to, Dads flatulence was causing the plane to be shaking violently.

just talking about holidays, good that you are not flying Peter, its literally a nightmare from months already.
It's strange how this pandemic period is causing many other (luckily minor) health issues that are not directly linked to virus itself but to some
extensions caused by the tough moment it caused such as backache in my case. Let me explain this.
Like many many other people, I used to have occasional back pain which in the last year has become quite serious due to the extremely long waiting
time that recently I have experienced at airports which has definitely deteriorated my back situation which was till a year or so absolutely
manageable.
My partner and I fly back from Uk (where we live) to Italy (our country of origin) just 1-2 times a year but even so, flying has become a long and
even expensive process due multiple mandatory covid test + a long form per root called PLF (passenger locator form).
When you leave Uk you have to do a swab test (costs about 30£) + PLF. The funny thing is that the swab test requested to travel is exactly the same
test that NHS (national health system) provides for free however when you fly you have to pay it! Pls note that this fly test can be done at home (24
hours prior to the fly) and no authority does check ''how'' you do it (so for example some else may do it for you) . In other words it's exactly the
same procedure for the free test except for the fact you have to pay it.
Once you are in the destination country, you should do an other covid test and when you fly back in uk a pre-departure test + a PCR day 2 test once
arrived in uk + the PLF where you have to enter the transaction code of the day 2 test you purchased 48 hours prior the departure (otherwise the
system doesnt allow you to complete the PLF). So in total you have to pay about 4 tests for a rough total of almost 200£!!!! And both my partner and I
are lucky cos we are fully vaccinated otherwise we should also have to do also a so -called day 10 test + mandatory self isolation for 10 days!!!
But in my case what really annoyed me was not the costs and the time required to follow all those mandatory processes (and trust me they are very time
consuming) but the loooooooooong waiting time at airports where the personnels at the desks have to check all those tests even if you try to do the
online check in (at least thats what i have experienced with a couple of air companies I have flied with such as KLM).
On top of that, as we all know all the companies have drastically reduced the personnel for the well known economic sufferings. As a result of that,
the waiting times at the desks are extremely long and in one of our last trips we waited something like 3 hours standing up.
So Due to this absurd long standing time my back has started to suffer very much and long story short I have developed a painful pain in one of my
legs (sciatica) due to a stenosis developed between 2 vertebrae. Its now 3 months I have this pain in a leg (luckily I suffer only when I walk so if I
sit down I feel no pain) and I tried so many treatments (eg Physio) even something strong like steroids injections in the back but nothing has worked
so the only last option Im afraid Ill have to face will be a surgical decompressions of the vertebrae (hopefully soon).
I'm sorry if I have shared something painful but at least I can guarantee we have spent so many great moments and enjoying friends and amazing Italian
foods in some of the most beautiful places in the world (Tropea -south Italy) as you can see from some pictures :-)

Been discussed above, I thought to share the link of a new starlink product that will be available in Q2 2022.
Specifically what caught my attention is the 40 ms latency claim. That would be pretty good for satellite type connection. (if true)
