TSL - Trading System Lab vs GSB

Hello fellow Traders!

Any of you were or still are users of TSL (Trading System Lab)?

How would you compare it to GSB?

Other than price (outrageous in TSL!), what are some of the things that you have at TSL that you would like to see in GSB?

Is GSB a cheaper and equally good version of TSL?

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I used TSL for three years and it has some nice features, however, having used both I prefer GSB. GSB now has better validation features than TSL and produces systems that are as good, if not better but that comes down to the expertise of the user. GSB is far better priced and I don;t see any need to spend a small fortune on TSL when you can get an equally good product for a fraction of the price.

I used TSL for two years. It taught me the significance of various order types, an important subject none of its competitors address. For example, one must use On Close orders for Kase, Range, and Renko bars.

It has no selectability, or even explanation, of indicators used in the generation process. It has no robustness testing of substance. It works well when you specify zero slippage and commission, but most of the strategies generated have average trades less than the spread, so the strategies are unusable. OOS performance when you specify a realistic slippage and commission is poor, which is TSL's key weakness.

Virtually no updates of substance have been released since 2015. There is no BBS and no support method other than working with the author, Mike Barna, who admittedly is very helpful and knowledgeable when contacted.

All in all, GSB is a superior solution, regardless of price. Support and ongoing development is better, updates are frequent, control over the generation process is more granular, and robustness testing exists. There's a future for GSB, whereas TSL is making no progress.

Regarding computer setup, would any of you be able to assist me? Im in a process of setting up a new workstation and would like to have enough processing power to run several backtest at the same time with large population and generation. I know that CL would take a lot of CPU to produce something that is worth looking into for instance...

Any tips with regards to #cores, processors, RAM and memory?

Im in US, so if you could pls recommend a configuration and website that would be amazing!

Best bang for buck is dual xeon e2690v2 with 256 gb of ram
about $2000 USD with ssd etc. $60 a month at oplink.net to host.
or $10 a day to hire from me.
Its as fast a i9 at half the price.

So basically you suggest that I get a dedicated server to run GSB or rent one, correct?

If I try to run in a regular decent computer, say i7, with 256 SSD and 64RAM, the backtest would be too slow? I might try this before getting the server...

Mind you that Im not tech savy, so I dont really know how it works to rent a server or get GSB to run in a server... So pls excuse my ignorance.

The i7 will do but the dual xeon will be much better. You can rent a server where you get fulll access via remote desktop or rent the server indirectly where you drive gsb via your i7 (paid gsb cloud)
Might was well start with the i7, then do short term test on the dual xeon

Understood. I'm not entirely familiarized on how to work with the paid gsb cloud. Im assuming it is a new functionality since I did not see this on your recent videos.

Is this easy to setup?

If it is, then I guess if it is I might just start doing this and evaluate the next steps as needed (possibly having a dedicated server...).

the cloud you just use share key in workplace settings in the gsb manager.
There is normally a little free cloud for all, but significant cloud like eqivealnt of a i9 is paid.
